About Us
Over the Blue Horizon Textiles specializes in mingei, or folk textiles, from old Japan. We are fascinated by the layered, patched textiles called boro, and by traditional weaving and dyeing techniques such as sakiori, tsutsugaki, katazome, and kasuri. Made of cotton, hemp, and linen, these are what the common people wore and worked in. Natural fibers; soft, frayed fabrics in muted colors from natural dyes; layers of patches and stitching—this is the beauty of humble workmanship.
Since 2006 we have been selling textiles online, and at events such as the Hand Weaver's Guild of America conference and the Textile Society of America symposium. You can also find us on eBay.
