Kasuri baby kimono

Offered here is a baby kimono hand sewn from hand woven cotton kasuri.   Kasuri is a weaving technique, known as ikat in other parts of the world, in which threads are dyed before they are loomed, so that a geometric pattern or a figurative design is produced when woven.  Kasuri weaving has characteristic fuzzy lines, a feature of the technique.   

There is a small white cotton lining on the upper kimono across the back and in the front. This kimono has a long rectangular black cotton patch on the back a few inches above the hem.  There are two smaller patches on the left front.  All of the patching was done very neatly!  There are four tucks, two in the front and two in the back, which are basted in.  They are meant to be let out as the child grows to lengthen the use of the garment.

There are a few light stains and one small hole; otherwise this sweet kimono is in very good condition.  It measures 26 inches from the tip of one sleeve across to the tip of the other, 10 inches across the back just under the arm, and 33 inches long from the tip of the collar to the hem.  

A very nice decorative wall piece which doesn't take up a lot of space and is light and easy to hang!
